"Some see things as they are and ask, 'Why?'

I see things that never were and asked, 'Why not?'"

We often attribute these words to President John F. Kennedy, though he borrowed them. Nevertheless, the thoughts associated with these statements bring us to a more personal question, "What about my life would I like to change?"

What about your job?

What about your sense of satisfaction from work?

What about all the things you have promised to do but have not found time to do?

What about the future? Travel? A new home? Kid's college? Retirement?

What about a self-directed schedule?

What about a new sense of freedom and self-direction?

Questions like these cause folk to look for ways and means to change their life and their worldview! I hear individuals say they feel stifled. Trapped. Unappreciated. Unfulfilled. Undervalued.

Of course, The scene and the questions would have been different if we had followed our dreams . . . when we were younger!

How can a thinking person respond to a person who wants to start a business? Especially, when you know that most new businesses fail. When you know that most individuals who start business fall under the weigh of the challenge. When you observe that failure brings discouragement, inter-personal conflict, financial loss and hardship. How can you describe such outcomes as these?

Over the years I've sifted through most of the franchises, licensees, many bright ideas and an unending list of businesses for sale. Few people qualify for these. They cost too much. They require a radical but uncharted change in commitment and life style. They often require risking far more than a person has to risk. The results can be disastrous. Most often, they are!

It's become clear to me that most of the people I talk with, who want to create a business for themselves,

bulletneed a proven idea,
bulleta good support system,
bulletrealistic capital requirements,
bulleta predictable marketplace, and
bulleta way to get going without throwing away current security.

You can have all this when you start a business. There is a way! Let's talk about it.
